Natural Beauty Summit America et Europe

Over 2 billion dollars of turnover (¹) is the 2007 result announced for the natural and organic brands segment, the most dynamic of the European cosmetics industry.Natural Beauty Summit Europe, the first European natural cosmetics and sustainable development event, is a natural part of this dynamic. Eco-packaging, the harmonization of standards, success stories… the edition that will take place on 8 and 9 October 2008 at the Paris Nord Villepinte Convention and Exhibition Center develops the essential themes of this economy and has every appearance of being a veritable forum of ex-changes and networking for its players. The German market represents over half of natural cosmetics sales in Europe, but England and France are seeing the fastest growth.

A new basis for growth is forming, including the development of new brands, new concepts, the implementing of common standards and new regulations. The Natural Beauty Summit organized by Beyond Beauty Paris in partnership with Organic Monitor looks at all sides of the question:

The program of 8 October blends with the European Pack Summit to deal with “The Ecological Issues of Cosmetics Product Packaging”:

  • Report on Innovations in Terms of Eco-Packaging: manufacturers (Rexam, M&H, Valorplast, etc), brands (Natura), designers (House of Design), consultants (Price Waterhouse Coopers) talk about their research and experiences.
  • New Regulations Following the French Environment Round Table: with representatives from the major official French and European authorities (Ministry of the Ecology and Sustainable Development, European Commission, ADEME, Eco Emballage, etc.).
  • The day of 9 October will focus on the new challenges in natural cosmetics, and notably the latest initiatives concerning the harmonization of European (BDIH, NaTrue, Cosmebio) versus American (NSF, OASIS, USDA, NPA) certification standards.

It will provide a summary in terms of European regulations and legislation, notably with the outline of the REACH framework presented by FEBEA and its implication for the cosmetics industry.

2.5% of cosmetics products sold in Europe are natural and organic. The Natural Beauty Summit Europe will present a few of the most wonderful launches and marketing successes of the year: Laverana, Santaverde and Anne Marie Börlind in Germany, and Meet The Bulldog in the United Kingdom.

These successes will be justified in an analysis of consumer expectations that Michel Gutsatz, brand strategy consultant, will present.

A new edition, the European version, of the Natural Beauty Summit will be held on 8 and 9 October 2008. Organized by Beyond Beauty Paris in partnership with Organic Monitor, the summit on natural cosmetics and sustainable development will offer a summary – one year after its first edition – of the changes in this trend that has become an “essential economic reality.”

Cosmetics and sustainable development, conjointly with the Cosmetic Pack Summit, will bring together the best experts on the ecological value of packaging for an entire day. A second day will be devoted to recent changes in terms of harmonizing certification standards and focus on the new “natural success stories.”

A true forum of exchanges between partners sharing the same dynamic, the Natural Beauty Summit Europe is part and parcel of an essential annual event of the natural cosmetics market and of sustainable development in Europe.

The ecological problem of cosmetic product packaging is worthy of a complete day of information, analysis and forecasting. The program of 8 October will deal with the essential points of this subject:

    • New regulations: the representatives of the main French and European authorities (the French Ministry of the Ecology and Sustainable Development, the European Commission, ADEME, Eco Emballage, etc.)?

On 9 October, a new session will present the latest initiatives concerning the harmonization of certification standards for organic and natural cosmetics, both on the European (BDIH, NaTrue, Cosmebio) and the North American market (NSF).
It will provide the year’s rundown in terms of European regulations, notably with FEBEA’s presentation of the outlines of the REACH framework.

Finally, to illustrate the incredible boom in the cosmetics and natural market, the Natural Beauty Summit Europe will present a few of the year’s greateset marketing successes: Yes To Carrots aux USA, Laverana, Santaverde and Anne Marie Börlind in Germany, and Meet The Bulldog in the United Kingdom.
These successes will find their justification in the analysis of consumer expectations that brand strategy consultant Michel Gutsatz will present.

The first edition of the Natural Beauty Summit AmericaAmerica was held on 15, 16 and 17 May at the Hilton Hotel in New York. The theme of the summit was “Natural cosmetics: the bases of sustainable development.” Nearly 250 beauty professionals in America participated in two-and-a-half days of talks and workshops hosted by the sector’s most prestigious players.

On 8 and 9 October 2008, a new European edition of the Natural Beauty Summitwill be held in Paris. Organized by Beyond Beauty ParisParis in partnership with Organic Monitor, it will this time be the occasion to bring together the best marketing and distribution experts on issues of eco-packaging and European standards.

With annual growth of over 20%, natural and organic products represent the most dynamic market segment of the transatlantic cosmetics industry. Thus it is with great interest that many who participated in the first Natural Beauty Summit AmericaAmerica are awaiting this event. With 98% satisfied, these high-level rep-resentatives, mostly CEOs and directors of prestigious companies such as Estée Lauder, Burt’s Bees, Kiss my Face, L’Oréal, Dr Hauschka, Aveda, and Johnson & Johnson appreciated the very high quality of the talks given by the top names, notably Horst M. Rechelbacher, founder of AVEDA and INTELLIGENT NUTRIENT; Erk Schurchhardt, CEO of WELEDA; Ulisses Sabara, president of BERACA; and Daria Myers, global president of ORIGINS.

Brands, industrial manufacturers, distributors and certifying organizations like among others Derma E, Lohas, Whole Foods, USDA, Oasis, NSF, Ecocert/BDIH, Alcan and Eastman Chemical had their say on many subjects related to the sustainable development in the sector, whose central issue is the absence of a common standard for natural and organic cosmetics in North America.

The next summit, scheduled in Paris on 8 and 9 October 2008aims to devote one day to eco-friendly packaging solutions for cosmetics. What are the solutions? How do we define them (biodegradable, recyclable, refillable, etc)? Just after Grenelle de l’Environnement, the French Environment Round Table, what do the regulations provide for? etc.

The second part of the summit will report on European standards of marketing and distribution in the field of organic and natural cosmetics, again through the main representatives of the sector.

The first European summit on natural cosmetics and sustainable development, the Natural Beauty Summit Europe (NBSE) organized by Beyond Beauty Paris in partnership with Organic Monitor, was held from 29 November to 1 December 2007 at Le Méridien hotel in Paris. The market’s key players, manufacturers, designers, distributors, certifying organizations all came together to deal with questions concerning the incredible growth in this sector.

Four days of talks among an audience of French and international companies made it possible for the summit to shed significant light on subjects such as: the potential of the natural cosmetics market, formulation techniques, the constraints involved in manufacturing organic products, their packaging, the impact of sustainable development policies in the cosmetics industry, or how to be both natural and organic.

These encounters were destined to be a success, and they will certainly also prove successful at the Natural Beauty Summit America which will be held on 15/16/17 May 2008 in New York. Based on the same principal as the European model, the objective is to satisfy the expectations of the increasingly numerous companies that wish to have all the keys in hand before launching into this trend. This time in step with the American organic cosmetics market, this talks series will deal with American market specificities and will give the floor to its best representatives.

Finally, a new edition of NBS Europe is scheduled to take place in Paris on 8 and 9 October 2008.
